Healing After Trauma

The aftermath of any accident, including road accidents, can have a profound and lasting impact on the lives of the victims and their loved ones. Trauma caused by road accidents is often overlooked due to its association with physical injuries, but the psychological toll can be just as devastating, causing symptoms such as stress, anxiety, and insomnia. In the UAE alone, 2,620 people suffered injuries because of road accidents in 2021.

Recognizing the importance of mental wellness in the healing process, OnStar Middle East has joined forces with The Lighthouse Arabia to offer a complimentary health and wellness platform called 'Healing After Trauma'. This platform is designed to support those who have been directly or indirectly affected by a road traffic incident.

In 2022, OnStar partnered with six talented artists to express the importance of "Road Safety, Through Their Eyes', aiming to reframe the serious issue and spark life-saving conversations. Each of the artists were asked to paint their emotional responses to accident videos. Following the success of the digital campaign, OnStar took it one step further by showcasing the artists' works during a live exhibition along with welcoming one of the artists to paint during the event. The exhibition highlighted the psychological impact of road accidents and demonstrated the healing power of art therapy.

Art has been recognized as a form of therapy for many people. By incorporating art into therapy sessions, the Healing After Trauma initiative provides a unique approach to addressing the impact of trauma on an individual's mental health and well-being.

At OnStar, we are dedicated to road safety and the well-being of our members. Our goal is to ensure that they feel safe and secure while on the road, knowing that OnStar is always there for them.

Join us on a journey of healing and self-discovery through art therapy. Experience the transformative power of art in overcoming trauma and improving mental well-being.

OnStar is proud to partner with VICE and The Lighthouse Arabia on a journey of self-discovery and healing for those who have experienced a traumatic car accident.

Meet six individuals who, guided by Juan Van Wyk, Clinical Psychologist at The Lighthouse Arabia, came together to find solace through self-expression and the power of art. According to Juan, "Trauma is not so much about what happened to us, as it is about how what happened changed the way we process life."

As they engaged in art therapy, they were able to better understand their thoughts and feelings, finding a unique and creative outlet for expression that words alone could not provide. "The process is largely based on Bilateral Guided Drawing. It creates a space where anyone can process what they're feeling, without having to talk about it," explains Juan.

The results of this powerful exploration were remarkable, showcasing the positive impact that art therapy can have on the lives of those who need it most. See for yourself the transformative effects of this innovative approach to healing.
